Languedoc, South of France, France

Big black cherry jam, juniper, spicy, barnyard aromas. Round, dry, slightly chunky entry with some tannins. Peppery, spicy, resiny, vanilla, tobacco leaf, black cherry and orange rind flavours. It’s dryer style that requires a rustic meat dish to disperse the tannins

. | What's a wine with a funny or rediculous name? I want to get my friend a bottle of wine for her birthday, but with a funny name. Any ideas? I've already seen the Fat Bastard wine, so something besides that :-] | | Mad Housewife is actually really good :) | Your favorite name of a wine/beer/liquor??? My favorite is Fat Bastard wine. Funniest (must really exist) gets the points. | I like:
Fat Bastard
Il Bastardo
Royal *itch
*itch
Lengs & Cooter (A winery, not a wine name)
Seven Deadly Zins
Sin Zin
Marilyn Merlot
Mad Housewife (A winery, not a wine name)
Goats do Roam (A play on Cotes du Rhone)
Screaming Ego (A play on Screaming Eagle)
There's one more that plays on a dog theme, but I can't remember it. | What kind of wine would I like? Red is a definite when choosing my wine. I like different kinds of merlot, such as Fat Bastard and Angeline. Seems they are a bit too bitter for my taste though, just a tad. Also, they seem quite dry. I would like something a bit less dry. Could someone help me with this and let me know maybe if merlot isn't my thing or a specific brand I should try. Thanks! | Here are a few choices for reds a little less acidic than Fat Bastard or Angeline:
South Australian Shiraz or Grenache/Shiraz blends. There's tons
Cru Beaujolias. Gamay grapes are low acid, fruity and even respond well to a slight chill
Spanish Garnacha from Toro or Navarra. Usually cheap too.
These may be a bit softer than what you've had. Most don't see much new oak aging so you shouldn't have to battle with wood tannins either.
Good Luck. | Will my wine go bad and can the alcohol change to bad alcohol (methanol)? My cousin bought a 2007 Fat Bastard Shiraz wine about a year ago. He left it in and out of the fridge. He never drank it. About a week ago he gave it to me saying he didn't want it. I've become a little paranoid ever since I heard about methanol making you go blind. It has been in heat like a maybe 80 or so degrees room fahrenheit. Has it gone bad? I guess you can say the wine has taken some abuse. | | Don't worry about methanol or vinegar. The worst probable problem would be that the wine has maderized and developed sherry-like character. You might even like it better that way. | What's the best wine brand name? In recent years a huge number of new brands have hit the marketplace, often with entertaining names.
The best (most creative) I've seen are "Fat Bastard" and "Mad Housewife," both with similarly entertaining images on the label. Have you seen any particularly memorable wine labels or brand names? | | Cost Plus has many holiday labels that are entertaining. Some of the ones I remember were the 7 deadly zins, dancing deer, black cat, etc. | Good Red Wine... Affordable??? I am fairly new to wine and bought a wine rack and want to start my collection of it for special occasions or just for the hard day at work kinda thing. I am into Red Wines more then White although im not rich!! What would you suggest for a good tasting Red Wine to always keep around??? I do not like REALLY dry wines I had bought a cheap bottle of "Fat Bastard" and it was EXTREAMLY dry and had to be one of the worst ones ive ever had. Thank you for your help! | There are some good wines under $20 and good for starter.
Boujolaise is a great wine to drink but not so much for keeping. If I were to buy that, I would drink it right away.
I agree that Syrah/Shiraz is a good choice. Syrah or Shiraz is a spicy red wine with some tannin, so it can be a bit dry, but it is rich with fruit flavor and goes well, as well as good for keeping for a while. Rosemount has good Syrah and Syrah/Cab, as well as Penfold. Both has cheaper Syrah ranging $10-20.
I have two other suggestion of wine. I think Pinot Noir would be a good choice for you to start. Pinot noir is a thinner skinned grape, so the wine are less tannic and less dry. With Pinot noir wine making process involving less oak than Cabernet and merlot, the wines are less oaky and more fruity. I would highly suggest a good Pinot more than $30-40, but if you want to start with cheaper ones, I would suggest Benton Lane Pinot Noir ($22) and Siduri Pinot Noir (cheaper Oregon blend $25). I also like Zinfandel, which is also a fruity wine and slightly sweet. It is this slight sweetness that allow winemakers to make White Zinfandel, a fruity and sweet light wine without complexity. However, red Zinfandel are complex and full of flavor, with velvety plum and some cocca. You can get cheap Zinfandel, but I would suggest to spend a bit more. Consider Rosenblum Zinfandel (multiple vineyards, including Cuvee $10 and single vineyards $20-30), Ridge (multiple vineyards, cheapest if Three Valley $22 but can go up to $35-40), and Noah ($20).
My advice is that, if you seriously about learning about wine, don't get something way too cheap. Anything less than $15 usually is not well made and may not be of good quality. Go to a wine bar and get flights of wines so you can see what you might like.
Good luck. | What's your favorite name of a food or drink product? I was down in the pantry and noticed the wine collection our family has. One of them was called "Fat bastard" and there was a little hippo above it! Pretty awesome! | ramune; it's a japanese drink :)
you pronounce it like: raw-moo-nay.
| How do I decline a Christmas gift? What do I say to the gift giver, so she stops hurting my feelings? To anyone who has recieved a lump of coal for Christmas- I sympathize! I have a good friend and I do nice things for her all year round; giving her rides because she doesn't have a car, generously treating her to lunch, being an ear for whatever, and giving her presents that reflect my respect and care for her, etc. Other than deeply caring about her, she can be very sweet and fun to hang out with which is why I haven't withdrawn from our friendship.Every Christmas and birthday she gives me God aweful presents. She can really be passive aggressive and I feel like that is the reason for it.An example, she is pissed at her dad and decided to get him a bottle of 'fat bastard' wine for Christmas. On my 33 birthday she gave me a cheapy stuffed animal! She has told me about the nice gifts she gives to her other friends, but she doesn't do it with me. Yesterday, she asked me for a loan (because she didn't feel like going to the bank). Nothing for me-I'm sure. What can I do to save our fship? | I am not as sure as you are that there is a true friendship here. She has shown her disrespect for you in a number of ways. If I were you, I would just gradually withdraw from this relationship as I soon as I could. It seems that it is all on your side and nothing on hers. Your friendship is obviously far more valuable than that!
As for the prezzies. Receive it graciously and then regift it to the local Goodwill or a Silent Auction. You do not necessarily have to use it. It is your property and can be used any way you wish.
Best of the Season!
Remember to respect yourself Sweetie. You are worth more than such a disrespectful relationship. |
